New Delhi: In exactly a week, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and 42 other world leaders will meet in Washington to find a way to ensure that nuclear materials and weapons don't fall into the hands of terrorists.
The nuclear security summit is President Obama's brainchild. For India, the safety of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal will be a big priority.
The genesis for the summit was president Obama's now famous Prague speech in April last year where he described nuclear terrorism as the most immediate threat facing the world.
"We have concerns on nuclear terrorism and the possible acquisition of nuclear weapons by terrorist groups," said Nirupama Rao, India's Foreign Secretary.
For India, which is a big supporter of the UN Convention on Nuclear Terrorism, the safety of Pakistan's nuclear weapons will be a key focus. Pakistan's Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the summit. The other countries of concern- North Korea and Iran - neither will be represented in Washington.
