Trinamool Congress MP and actor Nusrat Jahan gave birth to a baby boy at a private hospital in Kolkata this afternoon.
Both the mother and child are fine, according to a medical bulletin of the the hospital where the 31-year-old underwent a c-section delivery around 12:30 PM today.
The Trinamool MP's estranged husband Nikhil Jain said in a statement, "There may be differences between us but I am wishing the newborn and his mother all the best. I wish the baby boy has a bright future."
Nusrat and Nikhil have been estranged for some months now and earlier this year she put out a statement saying the marriage was not valid under Indian law.
"Being on foreign land, as per Turkish marriage regulations, the ceremony is invalid. Moreover since it was an interfaith marriage, it requires validation under the Special Marriage Act in India which did not happen. As per the court of law, it is not a marriage but a relationship or a live-in relationship. Thus, the question of divorce does not arise," her statement had read.
This morning, Yash Dasgupta, a popular Bengali actor who is known to be close to Nusrat Jahan, drove her to the hospital for the delivery. "For those who have been inquiring about Nusrat's health, the mother and child are healthy and doing well," he said later in the day.
Nusrat has never publicly spoken about her pregnancy though she shared pictures off her baby bump on her Instagram account.
This morning she posted a picture of herself on Instagram with the cryptic caption #faithoverfear #morningvibes.
