New Delhi: A Delhi court today discharged Yahoo! from the civil petition that accuses 20 internet companies like Facebook and Google of hosting objectionable content on their website.
Yahoo! has already been discharged from a criminal petition of the same nature in a different court.
Administrative Civil Judge Praveen Singh imposed a cost of Rs 5000 on plaintiff Mufti Aijas Arshad Quasmi for impleading the company as a party without disclosing any cause of action against it.
Last week, Mr Singh had ruled that Microsoft will not be party to this civil case, accepting Microsoft's arguments that the objectionable content was not being hosted on their website in any manner and hence, they were not liable to be part of the case.
Yahoo! had also presented similar arguments, saying that they were willing to cooperate with the law but there is no case against them.
The websites, which are the parties to the suit initiated by Quasmi for hosting alleged objectionable content, include Facebook India, Google India Pvt Ltd, Google Orkut, Youtube, Blogspot, Zombie Time, Exboii, Boardreader, IMC India, My Lot, Shyni Blog and Topix.
