Bhubaneswar: The government in Odisha is planning to construct bailey bridges to improve transportation in 200 inaccessible and remote places in the state.
The official sources said the width of the bridges will be 4.25 meter while the length would vary with the maximum being 120 meter.
Financial requirement for this purpose, estimated at Rs 163.31 crore, will be provided over 2013-14 and 2014-15 financial years. Rs 93.10 crore have already been allocated for the project.
The rural development department has finalised sites and projects proposals for 87 bridges. Garden Reach Builders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE), a central PSU has identified another 65 locations.
GRSE has been assigned the construction of 23 bridges including 19 in Koraput and four in Malkangiri district at an estimated cost of Rs 63.25 crore.
An agreement was signed with another central PSU, Bridge and Roof Co. Ltd for construction of 41 bridges in Rayagada and eight another in Gajpati district at an estimated cost of Rs 90.31 crore.
The Panchyati Raj department proposed 506 bridges while the SC & ST development department wanted 179 and collectors of various districts asked for 121.
