New Delhi:
Another train of the Delhi Metro went off track on Sunday, the second time in four weeks. There is some concern among passengers as they wonder what's going wrong.
At 6 am on Sunday, two wheels of the first bogie of a metro train jumped tracks. Luckily, none of the 12 people in it were injured. Traffic was held up for over five hours.
Delhi Metro says the derailment seems to have occurred due to problems with the track, though it was checked the night before.
The junior engineer in charge of maintenance has been suspended.
"We are dependent on this and the people aiming this should see and be careful with this. Metro is very important," said a commuter.
But a month ago, a similar incident had happened on the same route. Eight wheels of the front coach had jumped rails.
The probe held the driver responsible, saying he did not heed the signal. The driver was suspended.
The metro has been in news almost every month, but for wrong reasons. Once proud of its metro, Delhiites are now worried, and the experts we spoke to say that these incidents are just an indication of what is to come.
