Thane: An old woman died and a teenage student received injuries in two different incidences of ceiling collapse in Thane late evening today, the disaster control sources said.
An official said that at 6 pm, the slab in the room of a 20-year-old building at Kalwa fell on an old woman who was sleeping in the house.
The badly injured woman was rushed to the nearby civic hospital but doctors there declared her brought dead. The officer identified the dead lady as Sunita Jairam Revale (66).
In another incident in the Kopri locality, the ceiling of a room at the government women's' hostel crashed in the evening.
In the mishap, one student identified as Bhavna Bhusara, a tribal student was injured, the official said. The condition of the hostel is far from satisfactory and nearly 75 students are lodged there, he said.
