Omar Abdullah takes on Advani, slams BJP on Article 370

In an exclusive interview to NDTV, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that "reopening the debate on Article 370 is reopening the debate of Kashmir's accession to India."

Following are the highlights of what he said:

  • Not once when we were in NDA did the issue of Article 370 come up
  • Reopening the debate on Article 370 is reopening the debate of J&K's accession to India and if BJP wants to go that way, they will find many takers here
  • (On Advani) I wasn't unrestrained in my statement. Words used by some BJP leaders are for all to see. It is the case of pot calling the kettle black
  • (On two young men killed in Army firing) Human life is not taken as human life here. It is weighed on a scale.
  • Every incident needs to be taken individually. We have always had unrest in the valley ahead of a important visit
  • Well we are holding as of now. There is tension in the area where the boys came from. General population of the area doesn't want to see the repeat of summers of 2008,09, 10
  • But we shouldn't take the quam for granted. Their patience will run out one day. They will come out on the streets once again. It should be ensured that such incidents do not occur. Had SOP been followed this wouldn't have happened. This was avoidable. I have said again and again that we should be careful about what we do with intelligence received from sources.
