A woman was dragged out of sleep and pushed in front of a moving train near Mumbai by a man who then rushed off with her two children in a shocking incident caught on a security camera. The woman, believed to be the man's wife, died.
Chilling visuals of the incident were captured on CCTV camera at the Vasai railway station. The incident took place at around 4 am on Monday, said railway police. The accused has been arrested.
In the footage, the woman is seen sleeping on a platform bench when the man approaches her and wakes her up. They are seen talking to each other for a few seconds. The man suddenly drags her towards the tracks and pushes her off the platform as a train approaches.
The Awadh Express train passed through, crushing the woman to death. The man was then seen picking up two children sleeping nearby.
The man and the woman had been at the station since Sunday afternoon. After the incident, the man first went to Dadar and from there to Kalyan, according to the railway police.
He was arrested last night from Bhiwandi town in Thane, news agency PTI reported citing an official.
The Vasai station is located on the western line and Vasai Road-Roha line of the Mumbai suburban railway network.
