Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday appealed to the lawmakers to let Parliament run smoothly and allow the food security bill to be passed, sources said.
According to the sources, the PM made the appeal while interacting with the Opposition leaders during an 'At Home' ceremony hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Independence Day.
Parliament has been disrupted since the monsoon session started on August 5 and the government is keen to get the food security bill passed.
The PM reiterated his commitment to the bill while addressing the nation from Red Fort on Independence Day.
