New Delhi: As the country today celebrated its first Rio Olympics medal won by her colleague Sakshi Malik, wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who left a quarterfinal match on a stretcher, received some comforting words from Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter.

The 21-year-old, who was widely seen as a medal prospect, suffered a ligament tear and had to concede the match. She will take a week to recover, say Indian officials.

Her tweet conveyed her anguish this morning.

Ms Swaraj, who has become hugely popular on social media with her quick response to posts, especially calls for help, retweeted Ms Phogat's comment with a heartwarming response.

Ms Phogat's Olympic bid was cut short after she hurt her right knee in the middle of her 48 kg quarterfinal fight against China's Sun Yanan.

As she was carried away from the arena on Wednesday, she received a warm reception from the crowd. In a show of Olympic spirit, her opponent Sun Yunan waited for her and walked down with her. She also offered to carry her bag.

"She does not have a bone injury. Only ligament tear in right knee. She has to take support. But there's no dislocation. Hopefully she will recover in one week," said Indian chef de mission Rakesh Gupta said.

"But she will take about two-three days' to walk properly. She will take the help of a support," he added.
