Ludhiana/Patiala: Violence marked the municipal corporation elections in Punjab today as one person was reportedly killed in police firing after workers from Congress clashed with their counterparts from the BJP-Akali Dal in Ludhiana. The deceased man is yet to be identified, according to the police. A Congress MLA from Ludhiana was also injured in the violence.
In Patiala, workers from BJP-Akali Dal also clashed with the media, and broke cameras and snatched mobile phone from the press personnel.
The polling to four municipal corporations of Punjab - Jalandhar, Patiala, Amritsar and Ludhiana -is taking place today. The polling is being held for 50 wards of Patiala, 75 wards of Ludhiana, 58 wards of Jalandhar and 64 wards of Amritsar.
The polling to the municipal corporations is considered to be a litmus test for the Parkash Singh Badal government, which is currently in its second term.
