Jorhat: One person was killed and another injured after police opened fire in the Moripani area of Assam's Jorhat district on Sunday.
The incident occurred last night after the police tried to stop locals, working at a tea garden in the area, from attacking a vehicle coming from the adjoining state of Nagaland.
The agitated mob attacked the cops with knives when the latter tried to intervene. A police constable was seriously hurt in the incident. It's not clear as to what provoked the locals to attack the vehicle.
The situation in Moripani, which has several tea estates, is tense after the firing.
