Srinagar:
Militants fired at an army patrol on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir this evening, drawing retaliation from the soldiers.
One militant was killed in the brief exchange of fire between the ultras and Rashtirya Rifles personnel at Awantipora, some 32 kms from Srinagar, in Pulwama district. Also, one AK-56 gun belonging to the militants was recovered.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the militants, they said.
