New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested another man in the corporate espionage case today - taking the total number of arrests to 13. Five others were detained for questioning.
The arrested man is Lokesh Sharma, who, the police say, had access to coal ministry documents. The police claimed he was procuring leaked documents from the coal and power ministries.
Mr Sharma will be in the custody of the police for five days for questioning. He was later taken to Shastri Bhawan, from where the documents had been leaked, in an attempt to recreate the crime scene.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch, which is probing the case, will write to the ministries concerned to confirm whether any of the leaked documents contain sensitive information that could compromise national security, sources told NDTV. In that case, the Crime Branch will consider invoking the Official Secrets Act, for which the punishment is far more stringent.
Many of the papers leaked so far were marked as classified documents. But so far, nothing has emerged to show that the documents have been leaked to foreign countries, sources said.
A second case was filed today regarding the leakage of documents from coal and power ministry.
Altogether, sensitive documents from three ministries - coal, power and defence -- have been leaked, police said. The stolen documents included information that was to be included by Union finance minister Arun Jaitley in his budget speech.
Among the people arrested are five senior employees of energy companies, former journalist Santanu Saikia, who ran an oil industry portal and two government employees.
