Mumbai: One person has been arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the online leak of Udta Punjab two days before its release.
Police say the accused, Dipak Kumar, owns a website allzmovies.in which had uploaded the film. He has been summoned to the cyber police station in Mumbai after an investigation revealed his involvement in the case.
Last week, soon after Udta Punjab was leaked online, the legal team of Producers Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Films lodged a complaint in the cyber police station, after which an inquiry was initiated.
The film, before its release, was surrounded by controversies after the censor board suggested that the producers make 89 cuts in the film. Later, it was brought down to 13 cuts as suggested by the Revising Committee. The Bombay High Court finally gave the movie green signal for release after making just one cut and inserting additional disclaimers.
While the Central Board of Film Certification or CBFC had claimed that the film maligns the image of Punjab, the filmmakers had argued that the aim of the movie was to create awareness about the drug problem in the state.
