New Delhi:
Rescue operations are underway to locate one soldier who has gone missing after an avalanche hit an Army Post in Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
Two soldiers on surveillance duty were swept away after the avalanche triggered by a minor earthquake hit the post located at an altitude of 17,500 feet on Thursday. One of them was rescued in the search operations launched immediately after and is now recovering.
Rescue operations are on to locate the other soldier in spite of the adverse weather conditions in the sector.
Last month, a deadly avalanche on Siachen Glaciers in Jammu and Kashmir, close to the Line of Control or LoC, killed 10 army personnel including an officer. The bodies of nine of them were recovered after strenuous rescue operations which lasted for two weeks. Lance Naik Hanamanthapa, who was found buried alive under 25 feet of ice, died at a Delhi hospital four days after his miraculous rescue.
