Kandhmal: Tight security has been put in place in Kandhmal in Orissa. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is slated to hold a silent protest in front of the Raj Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Thursday on the first death anniversary of Swami Laxmananand Saraswati.
Swami Laxmanand was killed in Kandhmal by Maoists on Janmashtami day in 2008. The incident had triggered widespread communal violence in the area for nearly three months.
Security has been tightened in Kandhmal with 52 platoons of security personnel deployed. Eighteen platoons of special police officers and jawans of Orissa Special Armed Police (OSAP) have also been deployed.
