The condition of eight-year-old Rajitha, who NDTV reported was an orphan who was physically abused after being given away to work as a child labour, has not got better.

Her left hand elbow joint injury has festered and she has been shifted from Mahbubnagar district hospital to Hyderabad's Osmania Hospital.

``Sometime she says the injury was from a fall. But she also says she was beaten with a broom. Anyways, her report mentions burn injuries,'' says a Women and Child Welfare Department official.

Doctors have advised an emergency surgery and a biopsy of the infected tissue.

Rajitha's condition doesn't look very good. When NDTV met the child last time, she repeatedly asked us to take her away. But this time, she could barely speak a word. The only thing she asked was for some juice because she had not eaten anything for over six hours as she waiting for a surgery on her left arm.

Despite being rescued from abusive child labour, it's still a long way before Rajitha can enjoy any joy of childhood.

She needs to recover not just from the surgery and infection but many, many more physical and mental wounds.
