New Delhi:
A panel appointed by the Supreme Court to assess the deployment of forces at Osmania University in Hyderabad, has informed the court that the situation has improved in the campus.
During the last hearing, the apex court constituted a three-member panel headed by Andhra Pradesh Home Secretary to assess the situation and decide on deployment of forces inside the Osmania campus.
The panel, in its report submitted to the court, said that the situation was normal and additional forces had been withdrawn. The state government wanted the panel set up to continue.
The Supreme Court directed that the panel report to be given to the Andhra Pradesh government and the Osmania students' association and sought their response on it. The case has been adjourned to April 26.
The university has been the nerve centre of the Telangana agitation which began late last year. The Andhra Pradesh government had deployed paramilitary forces to control the agitation inside the campus.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court had earlier directed removal of forces from the university campus. This was, however, challenged in the Supreme Court by the state government.
