New Delhi: A 14-year-old mentally challenged rape survivor and her father from Bihar spent Sunday outside the venue of Janata Dal (United)'s national executive meeting in Delhi, hoping their demand for justice would be heard.
The girl was allegedly raped on July 1 last year. The family says the trial hasn't started in nine months, and the suspect, Krishna Singh, got bail and escaped arrest.
The girl's father alleges the Bihar police gave him a hard time when he tried to file a case. "We would call or message the in-charge of a women's police station in Chhapra about the whereabouts of the man who raped by daughter. The police did not act," he alleged.
The family says the girl was sitting in the verandah of her home when the suspect allegedly dragged her to a school and raped her. Not able to explain what had happened, she took her grandmother to the man and pointed him out. He fled.
"We are poor. The women in the family did not want to register a case, but my conscience didn't allow me to keep quiet," the father said, breaking into a sob.
Amita Singh, the police station in-charge in Chhapra, said investigations confirmed that Krishna Singh had raped the girl. "A chargesheet has been filed against him," she said.
