Chandigarh:
In a major drive, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has disconnected power supply to more than 3.56 lakh consumers for non-payment of dues and recovered Rs 151.94 crore from defaulters during 2011-12, an official said on Tuesday.
"Power supply of 356,825 defaulters was disconnected temporarily or permanently," a UHBVN spokesman said here.
The total outstanding dues was about Rs 207 crore, out of which Rs 151.94 crore was recovered, he said, adding that the recovery was made by launching a special recovery campaign.
The maximum disconnections were in Ambala and Panchkula districts - 87,562 followed by Kurukshetra - 65,582 and Yamuna Nagar 53,546.
In the year 2010-11, the Nigam had snapped electricity supply of 279,613 non-paying consumers and recovered Rs 119 crore from them.
