Over 500 missing from Madhya Pradesh in Uttarakhand after the floods
Bhopal: Over 500 people from Madhya Pradesh have been reported missing from Uttarakhand after the floods. The state government not only announced Rs 5 crore to be given for the relief work but has also sent a special seven-member team to Rishikesh for relief work and rescue operation of over 1000 pilgrims from the state stranded there. The team is headed by public relations minister Laxmikant Sharma.

On Wednesday helpline centres were started by the state government to maintain a database of people who had gone from the state to Uttarakhand and are missing after the June 16 floods. Over 40 people have been located due to the helpline till now. While the family members of these 40 are relieved, but there are still many who are anxiously waiting for any news about their dear ones who are missing in the flood-hit state.

The Maurya family of Bhopal is constantly following news channels hoping to get news of their five family members who were en route to Kedarnath and have been missing since June 16. Eldest of the siblings, Sharda Maurya, is very concerned about her missing parents Ramawadh and Shyama who are diabetic and her uncle Ramjag who is an asthma patient and her two aunts Sita and Surja.

"I last spoke to them on June 16 that said they have started for Kedarnath from Uttarkashi. After that we have no clue where they are. I am the eldest in the house I do not know where do I search for my parents. I am planning to go to Uttarakhand myself to search for my parents," Ms Sharda told NDTV.

90 kilometres from Bhopal in Hosagabad, Narendra Dixit is anxiously waiting for any news of his 10 family members who were in Kedarnath when he last spoke to them on June 15. Narendra, a contractor, along with his wife and children gave a miss to the pilgrimage trip. His parents, siblings, nephews and nieces are now traceless. He is still undecided whether to wait for a few more days or go to Uttarakhand himself and search for his family.

"I have been trying the helpline numbers but no luck so far. From news reports I got to know they have been shifted to Tehri camp and two of their names are also in the website. That is the only information I have," said the 38-year-old Mr Dikshit.
