Over 9 Crores Robbed From ATM Collection Centre, CCTV Ripped Off

The ATM Centre in Maharashtra's Thane from where over 9 crores was looted early Tuesday

Thane: Cash worth over nine crores was looted from an ATM collection centre in Maharashtra's Thane before dawn on Tuesday by a gang that also ripped off the CCTV to cover their tracks.

The robbery took place at a centre run by the Checkmate Cash Management Services, a company that delivers money from banks to ATMs.

At around 4 am, two security personnel were guarding boxes of cash kept inside the centre for delivery to ATMs later in the morning when armed men barged in.

The police say there were about six people, all masked and armed with guns and knives.

The robbers also pulled off the CCTV camera and took it with them.
Initially, it was believed that 12 crores had been looted but on counting, the police revised the amount to Rs 9.16 crore.

The police are investigating whether the robbers were tipped off about the cash in the collection centre by an insider.

They are also trying to search for any CCTV in the vicinity that may have filmed the gang.
