New Delhi: Here's a chance for Hindi speakers across the country to help choose a Hindi Word of the Year 2017.
Oxford Dictionaries is calling for "The Hindi Word of the Year" which will be a word or expression that has attracted a great deal of interest over the last 12 months. The chosen word should reflect the ethos, mood or preoccupations of the year.
The Hindi Word of the Year will be chosen by the Hindi Dictionaries team at Oxford University Press (OUP) along with an advisory panel of language experts, all of whom bring a unique perspective. The panel includes eminent writers like Namita Gokhale; former Associate Editor of AajTak Saurabh Dwivedi; Associate Professor at Ranchi University Poonam Nigam Sahay; Senior Editorial Manager, OUP Malika Ghosh and Kritika Agarwal, Language Champion for Oxford's Hindi Living Dictionary.
"The Hindi Word of the year is a big leap forward for the Hindi language as it aims to highlight the social and cultural relevance of Hindi in the current context. It is the campaign's endeavour to alter perceptions about languages being a living intangible heritage and not merely a static tool of communication," said Kritika Agarwal, Language Champion for Oxford's Hindi Living Dictionary.
The Oxford Dictionaries has recently launched its Hindi dictionary on its web portal and is being accessed by a large number of users. Oxford has been creating dictionaries for over 150 years and is also planning to come up with Word of the Year in other Indian languages.
