INX Media Case: P Chidambaram Gets Court Protection From Arrest Till July 3

The CBI had on February 28 arrested P Chidambaram's son Karti in the INX Media case. Later, he was granted bail.

The CBI on Wednesday summoned P Chidambaram in connection with the INX Media corruption

Former union minister P Chidambaram can't be arrested till July 3 in INX Media corruption case, a Delhi court told CBI today.

Mr Chidambaram moved two courts in Delhi on Wednesday for protection from arrest in the Aircel Maxis and INX media cases. One of the courts told the Enforcement Directorate that no coercive action can be taken against the former finance minister until the next hearing on June 5.

After a reprieve from the trial court in the Aircel-Maxis case, Mr Chidambaram went to the Delhi High Court in the INX Media case, in which his son Karti Chidambaram is an accused.


Mr Chidambaram was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with foreign investment approval in 2007 to INX Media, founded by Peter and Indrani Mukerjea. Mr Chidambaram lawyer, in a written submission to the investigation body, said that his client shouldn't be summoned till the matter gets heard in Delhi High Court.

Mr Chidambaram's son Karti was arrested on February 28 by the CBI in connection INX-Media case. Later, he was granted bail.

Mr Karti is accused of taking money to facilitate Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media in 2007 when his father was the Finance Minister in the UPA government. The CBI registered an FIR in the case on May 15 last year.

The CBI has alleged that irregularities were committed in giving INX Media the clearance to receive Rs. 305 crore in foreign investment. The CBI initially alleged that Mr Karti had received Rs. 10 lakh as bribe for facilitating the FIPB clearance.
