Satna: A stampede at a temple in Madhya Pradesh killed at least 10 people on Monday, including five women. Local officials said nearly six people were injured, two of them critical, in Chitrakoot area of Satna district, 600 kms from the state capital of Bhopal.
Several thousand pilgrims had gathered at the Kamtanath temple, devoted to Lord Ram, ahead of a new moon night when an electrical spark on the temple premises triggered a rush for the doors.
Some of the devotees were lying on the temple floor, participating in a ritual, when the accident happened, said police officer Pawan Shrivastav.
In October, at least 89 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a stampede at a bridge leading to a temple in Datia, close to the state border with Uttar Pradesh.
