Srinagar: A 16-year-old boy was shot dead by what the army called stray fire during an operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district to catch two terrorists hiding in a house. Both terrorists are believed to have been killed.

The terrorists reportedly shot dead were identified as Jehangir Ganai and Sher Gujri, both locals from Koel in south Kashmir. Ganai was allegedly involved in the killing of a policeman last year.
During the encounter this morning, the army got Sher Gujri's wife to communicate with him on a loudspeaker and urge him to surrender.
Security forces launched the operation early this morning after being tipped off about three or four terrorists hiding in a house. To keep local people away, anti-riot police were also called in.
This is the second major encounter in the area in the last four days. Two terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Pulwama's Tral area. A policeman also lost his life and three security personnel were injured in the gunbattle that lasted over 24 hours last week.
A terror suspect was also killed on Tuesday night in Uttar Pradesh after a 12-hour operation near Lucknow. Saifullah was believed to be a part of a group that was planning a major attack on a Sufi shrine in Uttar Pradesh later this month. The group was also allegedly involved in the explosion on a train in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning.
