Pak link to Headley terror plot: Chidambaram

Hyderabad: Home minister P Chidamabaram said on Friday that there was a clear Pakistan link in the Lashkar-Headley terror plot against India. (Read: The case so far)

"There is a Pakistan link. Dave Headley visited Pakistan a number of times and I think on the advice of the FBI, two or perhaps more people have been arrested in Pakistan," Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters in Hyderabad.

The plot was uncovered by the FBI recently. Tahawwur Hussain Rana and David Headley, Chicago-based businessmen who have been linked to a plot to attack the Danish newspaper that published controversial cartoons about the Prophet Muhammad, also discussed the possibility of attacking the National Defence College in New Delhi. They have been arrested and are being interrogated.

Speaking to reporters after a police function in Hyderabad, Chidambaram said the FBI chargesheet clearly talked about a Pakistan connection.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media on the sidelines of the India EU summit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said Pakistan had not given any information on Headley.

The US government has recorded conversations of American Headley, and Rana - a Canadian national who was born in Pakistan -- discussing the possibility of an attack on the NDC, which provides training to top Defence and Civil Services officers in national and international security.

Charges filed say Rana, who operates a Chicago immigration service, also e-mailed advice to a member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba on how to bring people into the US illegally.
