The Pakistan army claimed to have shot down an Indian spy drone. India has denied it

New Delhi: Pakistan has summoned the Indian envoy after saying it had shot down an Indian "spy" drone, a claim that has been denied by New Delhi.

Sources say Pakistan wants to lodge its strong protest with Indian High Commissioner TCA Raghavan over "intrusion into its airspace."

The Indian military has strongly denied the allegation.

"Some reports of a drone crash in POK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) are being referred to. No drone or UAV crash of Indian Army has taken place," the defence ministry said in a statement.

The Pakistan army alleges that the drone was being used for aerial photography near the Line of Control and was shot down in the Bhimber area of PoK for "violation of Pakistan's territorial integrity."

Indian government sources called it a "strange coincidence that Pakistan claimed it shot down an Indian drone soon after the violation" on Wednesday. A woman was killed and six, including two soldiers, were injured in heavy firing from across the border in Akhnoor sector.

In more firing this morning, three villagers have been injured at the RS Pura sector.

The ceasefire violations come just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu on Friday and days after PM Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif held talks on the sidelines of a regional conference in Ufa in Russia. As part of what was seen as breakthrough announcements after the talks, the two countries decided to arrange meetings of senior military officials to reduce tension along the border.
