Imphal:
A local committee has ruled that parents would not pay school fees during the boycott of classes in Manipur since September last year to protest the alleged killing of a youth by police commandos in a fake encounter.
In a statement here on Monday, Bishenpur-district based Development and Protection, United Voluntary Organization (DPUVO) said schools and other educational institutions in Nambol areas in the district have not been conducting classes since September 9.
Private educational institutions, meanwhile, have been asking parents to pay tuition fees for the period during which the classes were not held, the DPUVO said, adding that it would not allow the parents to pay the fees.
School authorities in the area did not try to solve the problem and now they were asking the parents to pay the fees which is not just, alleged DPUVO.
Three students organizations - All Manipur Students' Union, Manipur Students' Federation and Kangleipak Students' Association - have been boycotting classes since September 9 in support of the demand of prominent social organization Apunba Lup, agitating for justice for the killing of a youth in an alleged encounter by police commandos on July 23 last year.
