Monsoon Session 2021 Updates: PM Modi was present in the Lower House today (File)

The Lok Sabha has been adjourned sine die while Rajya Sabha proceedings have been adjourned till 12 noon amid opposition protests over various issues. The parliament proceedings have been hit over the last few weeks due to protests over the Pegasus snooping row, farm laws and other issues.

The Question Hour in Lok Sabha witnessed disruptions on most of the days during this Monsoon session. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present in the Lower House when it was adjourned indefinitely today.

The OBC Bill, which will allow states to draw up their own OBC list, was passed in the Lok Sabha yesterday.

Centre Denies Reports Of Rising Custodial Deaths In Rajya Sabha
 The Centre has denied reports of an increase in custodial deaths in the country, reported news agency ANI. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha regarding reports of increasing custodial deaths, MoS Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said, "No such increasing trend has been noticed."

He quoted the "Prison Statistics India 2019" report published by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), and said, the report mentions 1,775 deaths in prisons for the year 2019. "The data is uploaded by the respective State/Union Territories and NCRB has a limited role of collating and publishing this data," he said.

The Minister noted that "Police", "Public Order" and "Prisons" are state subjects in the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India.

Congress MP Gives Adjournment Notice In Rajya Sabha For Discussion On Farm Laws
Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda has given an adjournment motion notice in Rajya Sabha demanding discussion on Centre's farm laws, reported news agency ANI. He said that the House should discuss the extraordinary situation that has risen arisen over the passage of the farm bills in September 2020.

"Lakhs of farmers have been protesting at the borders of the national capital for almost eight months and have braved winter, summer and are now out in the open during the monsoons. Farmer organisations say over 500 people have lost their lives during the protests," Mr Hooda noted.

Opposition Parties Unitedly Placed Demands For Discussion On Farm Laws, Pegasus: Adhir Chowdhury
Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that earlier it was decided that Lok Sabha will go on till August 13, but today the government decided there was no need to run the House anymore and they have adjourned it sine die. "Opposition parties unitedly placed our demand for discussion on Covid, fuel price rise, farm laws and Pegasus," he said.

"When the House was to be adjourned sine die, PM Modi today came to the House. Government doesn't want to discuss any bills. Even Lok Sabha TV is not allowed to show us," he said.
