Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Dr Santanu Sen was today suspended from the House for the remaining part of the monsoon session for snatching IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's statement on the Pegasus affair and flinging them amid the uproar in Parliament yesterday.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu declared his suspension within moments of V Muraleedharan, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, moving a motion on this.

Earlier today, Several Opposition MPs, including Congress' Rahul Gandhi protested against the government inside Parliament complex over the Pegasus snooping issue and demanded a Supreme Court-monitored judicial probe into the matter.

Besides Mr Gandhi, a host of senior Congress MPs like Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, party's leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, KC Venugopal and Shashi Tharoor, DMK's Kanimozhi and Shiv Sena's Priyanka Chaturvedi, were present during the protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue inside Parliament complex.

Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned till Monday amid uproar by Opposition leaders over host of issues, including the newly implemented farm reform laws and Pegasus row.

Since the pandemic began, three sessions of Parliament were curtailed while the winter session last year had to be cancelled.

The monsoon session, which usually starts in July, had begun in September last year due to the raging pandemic.

Rajya Sabha: Congress MP gives suspension of business notice on farmers' agitation

Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda has given a suspension of business notice in Rajya Sabha on Friday on the issue of farmers' protest.

The suspension of business notice has been given under rule 267 of Rajya Sabha proceedings.

Congress MPs will also hold a protest in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament on Friday over the farmers' agitation, ANI reported.
