Parliament Session 2024: The Opposition is trying to corner the government over the alleged NEET paper leak issue.

Parliament Session Live: This is the first session after the constitution of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Parliament Session 2024 LIVE Updates:

The Lok Sabha was today adjourned till Monday amid an uproar in the House over a discussion on the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the medical entrance exam NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and other competitive exams.

As soon as the House met at 11 am, opposition INDIA bloc members sought the acceptance of an adjournment motion to suspend all business and discuss matters related to the NEET.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said the NEET issue is a very important issue for the whole country and they want a dedicated discussion in the House on the matter. However, Speaker Om Birla said that he could not allow it as the House was about to take up the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President's address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on Thursday.

As the uproar continued, he first adjourned the House till 12 noon and then till Monday. This is the first session of Parliament after the constitution of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar today expressed anguish over Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge entering the Well of the House.

'Let House Function Smoothly': Deve Gowda Amid Uproar Over NEET
Amid an uproar in the Rajya Sabha over the NEET issue, senior JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda today appealed to the opposition members to let the House function smoothly.

Intervening during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, he said the government cannot fix responsibility until the probe in the matter is completed.

"I do not want to take sides. The government has taken the right decision (to order a CBI probe)," the former prime minister said.

He said the investigation is not yet complete and the government cannot fix responsibility until it is completed.

After the Lok Sabha was adjourned till Monday amid ruckus in the House over the NEET issue, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that they have made it clear that they will give detailed information on whatever issue is raised. 

"We assure the members once again that the Government is always ready for discussion. But by halting the proceedings of the House, the tendency adopted by Congress party - of not letting the House function - is not right... I condemn this. I appeal that those should not happen again," he told reporters.

Rahul Gandhi On NEET Row Ahead Of Parliament Session
Speaking on the alleged NEET paper leak case, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today said that the Parliament should send message to youth that the government and opposition are together in raising concerns of students.

"There should be a discussion on NEET here in the House. I request the Prime Minister that this is an issue of the youth and it should be discussed properly and it should be a respectful discussion. We will do it respectfully. You should also join the discussion, you should also participate because this is a matter of the youth. A message should go from the Parliament that the Indian government and the opposition are talking about the students together," he told reporters outside Parliament.

In case the matter comes up today, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will respond to it, sources said.

The day, however, is dedicated to a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address to Parliament.
