'Wash Your Faces With Dettol': Finance Minister Counters Congress' Corruption charge In Lok Sabha

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the Congress leaders should 'wash' their faces with 'Dettol' before they talk about corruption.

She made the scathing remark in the Lok Sabha after Congress members levelled corruption allegations against the Narendra Modi government.

New Tax Regime To Leave Higher Disposable Income In Hands Of People: Finance Minister
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the new tax regime, which offers a rebate on annual income of up to Rs 7 lakh, will leave higher disposable income in the hands of people.

She said the Budget focuses on the middle class, employment generation, MSME, agri sector, rural population, health and green growth.

She said the new tax regime announced in the Budget is "very attractive" as the tax exemption limit has been hiked to Rs 3 lakh, from Rs 2.5 lakh earlier. Besides, a standard deduction of Rs 50,000 too has been allowed under the scheme.

This new tax regime will benefit the majority of middle-class taxpayers, she said, adding that the rebate has been provided on an income of up to Rs 7 lakh.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the budget astutely balances the requirement for India's development imperatives within the limit of fiscal prudence.

"In simple words, budget 2023-24, astutely balances the requirement for India's development imperatives within the limit of fiscal prudence. That is a very difficult balance, it is a very delicately balanced tact," she said.

Congress and DMK MPs stage walked out from Lok Sabha in protest against the reply of the Union Health minister on Madurai AIIMS. Health Minister Dr Mandaviya has said that he won't allow medical  colleges without adequate faculty and infrastructure to operate in the state.

Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary wrote to Speaker Om Birla on Thursday urging him to publish Rahul Gandhi's speech in the House. He said a major part of Gandhi's speech on Tuesday during a discussion on the motion of thanks on the President's address was removed, making it "unintelligible".
