Parliament Winter Session Highlights: The winter session of Parliament will continue till December 20.

Countries have the right to respond to situations but they should be mindful of civilian casualties and must observe humanitarian laws, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

"We condemn terrorism, we condemn hostage-taking. We do believe countries have the right to respond to the situation but countries should be mindful of civilian casualties. They must observe humanitarian law and we would like a ceasefire and an early end of violence," Mr Jaishankar said in response to supplementaries during the Question Hour regarding India's position on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

The Upper House, during the course of proceedings, witnessed uproarious scenes in the morning when BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged attacks by foreign forces on India's national interests and demanded a thorough probe, besides asking all MPs to discuss the serious issue. As he referred to a report on the indictment of an Indian business house by a US attorney, members of several opposition parties rose on their feet creating uproar in the House. The Chair adjourned the proceedings till 12 noon. 

In the Lok Sabha, the proceedings were adjourned for the day over BJP member Nishikant Dubey's remarks targeting Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and seeking to link him to a US-based multi-billionaire.

The Winter session of Parliament began on November 25 and will continue till December 20.

Parliament Passes Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024

Parliament on Thursday passed a bill to replace the 90-year-old Aircraft Act and further improve the ease of doing business in the aviation space. The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024 was passed in the Rajya Sabha by a voice vote. It was earlier approved by the Lok Sabha on August 9. The bill seeks to remove redundancies and replace the Aircraft Act, 1934, which has been amended 21 times.

Opposition Alleges 'Hindification' Of Laws

The Opposition in Rajya Sabha accused the government of imposing Hindi by bringing new bills with titles only in that language, a charge dismissed by the treasury bench. Taking part in the discussion on 'The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024' that seeks to replace the 90-year-old Aircraft Act to boost the ease of doing business and attract investments in the aviation sector, TMC MP Sagarika Ghose opposed the bill's name while Kanimozhi NVN Somu of DMK asked the government to change its name. Ghanshyam Tiwari of the BJP refuted the charges of "Hindi imposition" and pointed out that the bill with title in Hindi has been presented to the House by a minister who is a Telugu - referring to Union Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu.

Speaker Om Birla Cautions Members Against Wearing Badges

Winter Session of Parliament Updates: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday urged members not to sport lapel pins and badges other than the national Tricolour in Parliament. The Speaker's remarks came as several Congress members were seen wearing stickers with slogans that hit out at the Narendra Modi-led government over the Adani issue. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was also seen sporting the sticker on his trademark white T-shirt. Birla pointed out that Rule 349 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha states that a member shall not wear to display badges of any kind in the House, except the National Flag in the form of a lapel pin or a badge.
