The Parliament resumed at 11 am with renewed Opposition demands for a discussion on the latest India-China clashes in Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, sources said the ongoing Winter Session may end this Friday, a week ahead of schedule. The Rajya Sabha witnessed chaos yesterday over Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge's remark against BJP, questioning its role in the freedom struggle.

Parliament Passes Bill To Deal With Maritime Piracy
Parliament on Wednesday passed the Maritime Anti-Piracy Bill, which provides for stringent punishment to those convicted of such crimes. The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed by voice vote the Maritime Anti-Piracy Bill-2022 which was moved for consideration and passage by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday.

10 Rajya Sabha Members Nominated To Examine Multi-State Cooperative Societies Bill
Rajya Sabha on Wednesday nominated 10 members to the joint committee of Parliament to examine the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
The Lok Sabha Tuesday referred the Bill to the committee. Cooperation Minister Amit Shah had said 21 members of the joint panel will be from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha.

While moving the motion in the Upper House, Minister of State for Cooperation B L Verma named the 10 members of the Rajya Sabha who will be in the joint panel.

Rajya Sabha Takes Up Maritime Anti-Piracy Bill For Consideration
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday moved Maritime Anti-Piracy Bill, 2022 for passage in Rajya Sabha. The bill makes special provisions for repression of piracy on high seas and provides for the punishment for the offence of piracy was passed by the Lok Sabha on December 19.

"The Maritime Anti-Piracy Bill, 2022 was passed by the Lok Sabha on December 19. This bill was initially introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 9, 2019. And it was referred to the Standing Committee on External Affairs 2019/20 for examination and report. The carefully committee examined the bill and made some useful recommendations and observations," S Jaishankar said while speaking in Rajya Sabha during the discussion on the Bill.

"Drugs Coming From Gulf Countries": Amit Shah
Amit Shah in Parliament said that drugs are coming into India from "gulf countries". "People involved in it have been arrested while factories have been sealed. On the basis of this, raids were conducted in 12 states & people were arrested there too," Union Home minister Amit Shah said.

Winter Session Live: Prepaid Mobile Services Working In Ladakh, Says Minister In Rajya Sabha
Replying to a query today, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai informed the Rajya Sabha that the prepaid services of mobile connection is available and working in the Union Territory of Ladakh. He said the total number of mobile connections in the Union Territory is 5,82,473 as on November 30, 2022. He also mentioned that the number of postpaid connections stands at 2,71,829 as on November 30, 2022, while the total number of pre-paid connections is 3,10,644 till this date.

Winter Session Live Updates: Opposition Parties Walk Out Of Lok Sabha
Opposition parties walked out of Lok Sabha today seeking a discussion on the border issue with China. As soon as the House assembled for the Zero Hour, Congress and DMK members staged the walkout, followed by MPs from the Trinamool Congress and Janata Dal (United). Congress' Leader of the House, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, urged Speaker Om Birla to allow a discussion on India-China issue, saying it is the opposition's right. "We have been demanding a discussion on the China issue since morning. Discussion is happening on TV, everywhere outside (the Parliament). Give an opportunity to the opposition to discuss it. It is our right," he said. Sudip Bandyopadhyay of the Trinamool also pressed for a discussion. The House later resumed discussion on the issue of drug menace.

"The Border Security Force has reported the sighting of about 200 drones this year, twice as last year. As many as 109 drones were spotted in 2021.
