New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, launched a sharp attack at the Opposition and the INDIA bloc in his last Parliament speech ahead of the national elections scheduled for this year. "The Congress' shop on verge of closure in its attempt to launch same product again and again," he said in a swipe at Rahul Gandhi.

President Droupadi Murmu had addressed the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on January 31, the first day of the Budget Session.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has issued a three-line whip to all its MPs in Lok Sabha to be present in the Lower House on the fourth day of the ongoing Budget Session.
The last session before Lok Sabha polls expected to be held in April-May this year will be spread over eight sittings spread over a period of 10 days and may conclude on February 9.

Lok Sabha adopts motion of thanks on President's Address Lok Sabha on Monday adopted the motion of thanks on the President's address after the reply from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who lambasted the opposition parties and outlined the achievements of the government.
The motion was adopted by a voice vote. Over 60 members took part in the debate on the motion of thanks which commenced on Friday.
The budget session of parliament began on January 31 and is the last before Lok Sabha elections expected in April-May. The session began with the address of President Droupadi Murmu to the joint sitting of the two Houses.

Opposition leaders being hounded by central agencies: Trinamool Congress MPTrinamool Congress MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray on Monday alleged that leaders of states ruled by non-NDA parties are being hounded by the central agencies and said his party chief Mamata Banerjee has written to the Committee on 'One Nation One Election' headed by former president Ram Nath Kovind vehemently opposing the concept.
Participating in the debate in the Motion of Thanks on the president's address in Rajya Sabha, Mr Ray informed the West Bengal chief minister is also coming to attend the meeting on 'One Nation One Election' on Tuesday and said "nothing will be accepted by our state at least on this issue".
He accused the BJP-led central government of resorting to "fiscal terrorism" in West Bengal, claiming that 156 central teams were sent to the state to look into the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes.
Several monuments, archaeological sites under encroachment: Government tells Parliament
A number of old monuments and archaeological sites in the country are "under encroachment", the government informed the Lok Sabha on Monday. Union Minister of Culture G Kishan Reddy said this in a written response to a query in the Lok Sabha.
He was asked about the centrally protected monuments and whether any study has been done to assess their present conditions.
There are 3,697 ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains which have been declared of national importance, Reddy said.
"Inspection of monuments and sites is taken up by the Archeological Survey of India's officials/officers from time to time to assess their condition," he said.

Replying to a question by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in the Lok Sabha on the Karnataka government's claim that the Centre is not releasing funds due to it, Ms Sitharaman said such a situation cannot happen as the "system is well placed" and the central government works according to recommendations of the Finance Commission.
"This apprehension that some states are being discriminated against is a politically-vitiated narrative which, I am sorry to say, vested interests are happy to go about saying," she said during Question Hour.
Ms Sitharaman added that no Union finance minister can play with the Finance Commission's recommendations.
"This is just not a possibility that any finance minister can intervene to say that 'I don't like this state, stop payment'. No way. It can't happen that way. The system is well placed," she said.
