Parliament Live Updates: The winter session will continue until December 22.

New Delhi:

In an unprecedented development, 78 MPs, including both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, were suspended today for staging protests in demand of a statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the security breach in Parliament last week.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to move the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in Rajya Sabha for its consideration and passage today.

The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023 seeks to reserve 33 per cent of seats in the Jammu and Kashmir, and Puducherry Assemblies for women. The legislation has already been passed in Lok Sabha last week.

Meanwhile, several opposition MPs have given notices in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, seeking a discussion on the recent breach in Parliament security today.

Since two persons with gas canisters jumped into the Lok Sabha from the visitors' gallery, triggering panic inside the House, the opposition lawmakers are demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue. The security breach happened on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.

Here are the Highlights on Winter Session of Parliament:

Winter Session of Parliament update: Some suspended Lok Sabha MPs protest with placards on steps of Parliament

Some of the 13 suspended Lok Sabha MPs on Monday protested with placards sitting on the steps of Parliament, demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah on the Parliament security breach incident.

Congress MPs Mohammed Jawaid, Hibi Eden, Benny Behanan, Dean Kuriakose and CPI(M)'s S Venkatesan sat on the steps of Makar Dwar of Parliament, holding placards, protesting against the government.

Jawaid said the message they want to give through the protest was that the December 13 incident was a serious security breach and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have given a statement on it in the House and told the people of the country why this happened.

"You (BJP leaders) praised the new Parliament building, claimed that it was fully secure, it has not even been four months and during a debate intruders came in the Lok Sabha chamber, what can be a bigger breach...so either the PM or the Home Minister (Amit Shah) should make a statement in the House," the Congress MP from Kishenganj told PTI.
