Chandigarh:
Scattered rainfall occurred in parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday bringing down the maximum temperature by nearly two degrees Celsius in the region.
The Union territory of Chandigarh received 30 mm of rainfall, and recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius, the Met office said.
Ambala in Haryana received the most rainfall at 51 mm, while in Punjab, Amritsar had 23 mm and Patiala 0.3 mm showers.
However, Hisar in Haryana recorded a high of 36.5 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, the hottest place in the region.
Bhiwani's maximum settled at 35 degrees Celsius while Ambala registered a high of 34.1 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Amritsar and Patiala recorded identical maximums at 35.5 degrees Celsius, also a notch above normal, while Ludhiana registered 35 degrees Celsius.
The rainfall eased power situation to some extent in the region, officials said adding that some low lying areas were inundated by waters.
The MeT forecast cloudy sky with possibility of thundershowers at a few places in the region during the next 24 hours.
