Jalpaiguri:
Two people have died in West Bengal after being pushed out of a train headed to Guwahati from Bangalore, reports Press Trust of India. Nine other passengers were injured in the incident and all but one were from Assam.
Two more bodies were found on the railway track at Falakata in Jalpaiguri this morning. IANS says the police suspects they were also pushed from another train.
Those from the North-East, who live in cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad, have headed home in huge numbers, with many worried about their safety. A series of incendiary text messages and MMS-es said those from the north-eastern states would be targeted. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said officials had travelled to the site of the accident to ensure there was no fallout. He again reiterated the involvement of a "foreign hand" in the recent violence in his state that has claimed nearly 80 lives and displaced over four lakh.
One of the injured said that after the train left New Jalpaiguri, a group of unidentified men robbed passengers of their belongings and then threw them from the train.
A large number of people blocked railway tracks at the New Jalpaiguri station in protest against the incident as a result of which train movement was disrupted for some time.
