Patna blasts: informer who used toilet break to disappear resurfaces at home
Patna: An informer who disappeared from a lodge in Patna last week while he was helping the National Investigation Agency or the NIA in its probe into the blasts targeting Narendra Modi's rally in the city, has been traced to his home in Bihar.

Mehre Alam, who claimed to have crucial information about the October 27 blasts, has returned to his home in Sidhauli village near Darbhanga, as mysteriously as he vanished. He has reportedly refused to talk about his whereabouts in the past week.

Sources say Alam's name first came up during the interrogation of Yasin Bhatkal, the co-founder of terror group Indian Mujahideen. Bhatkal had allegedly told the police that Alam - codenamed 'Gai' (cow) according to sources - was close to both him and Tehseen Akhtar, the man believed to be running the outfit since Bhatkal's arrest in August. Tehseen Akhtar is among the main accused wanted for the explosions that left six people dead and 83 injured.

Alam had reportedly offered to help the NIA locate Haider Ali, another top Indian Mujahideen commander wanted for the blasts.

On October 31, four days after the blasts, Alam led investigators to a village where he said Haider Ali was hiding, but the search proved futile. On way back, Alam, who was staying with members of the Bihar police and the NIA at a lodge, excused himself to go to the toilet - and didn't return.

The NIA had then said that because Alam had not been formally arrested, it was incorrect to say that he escaped.
