Patnaik asks other states to protest anti-terror body
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday spoke with the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and asked them to oppose the powers to be vested in the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).

Mr Patnaik discussed with J Jayalalithaa and Mamata Banerjee and drew their attention to the powers the central government has planned to vest with the NCTC.

Mr Patnaik has also discussed the matter with former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu and sought his support in the protest, a senior official of Mr Patnaik's office told IANS.

Citing a recent memorandum of the union ministry of home affairs regarding the powers vested in the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Mr Patnaik had on Monday written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking a review of the matter.

Describing the move as "an infringement on the powers of the states", the chief minister said the provisions have draconian overtones.
