PDP Expels Leh District Chief For Demanding Union Territory Status For Ladakh

Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: PDP today expelled its district president for Leh Tashi Gyalson from the basic membership of the party for signing a memorandum demanding Union Territory status for Ladakh, saying that under no circumstances will it endorse any move aimed at dividing the state.

The head of PDP's Disciplinary Committee Abdul Rehman Veeri expelled Gyalson for violating the party's whip, a party spokesman said in a statement.

"Gyalson signed the memorandum demanding Union Territory status for Ladakh which is against the policies of PDP," he said.

The spokesman said PDP believes in unity and any move aimed at dividing the state on regional or religious lines will only be an unfortunate development, and under no circumstances will the party endorse any such divisive move.

"People of different faiths, ethnicity and languages live cordially in J&K since ages. PDP believes in taking everyone together to find a lasting solution to our problems," he said.

The spokesman said people are still suffering the fallout of the partition and any further division of Jammu and Kashmir will only add to the problems of the state and region.
