New Delhi: Filmmaker Mahmood Farooqi has been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly raping a 35-year-old American woman.
Mr Farooqi, best known for co-directing the 2010 film Peepli Live, has been sent to judicial custody for six days.
The woman, a 35-year-old American student, had come to India for some research in March. She had lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police on Friday following which Mr Farooqi was called in for questioning and arrested yesterday.
Mr Farooqi, 43, is married to screenwriter Anusha Rizvi, who directed Peepli Live - a comical satire which dealt with the topic of farmer suicides in India.
