Jaipur: People are feeling "betrayed" as BJP leaders had promised good days before elections but Narendra Modi-led NDA government was now working just to "appease" a few capitalists, Congress MP Deepender Hooda said in Jaipur today.

The Rohtak MP alleged that the NDA government was taking U-turns on everything be it land acquisition bill, FDI, nuclear energy and others issues.

"People are feeling betrayed by the BJP. Their expectations were very high from Narendra Modi but it has shattered in one year. People have understood that they have been betrayed," Mr Hooda said at a press conference at the PCC office.

"The government gave tax benefits to Corporate sector and slashed social sector spending by whopping Rs 1,75,122 crores in one year alone by way of Rs 66,222 crores cut in grants on social sector schemes; Rs 5900 crores cut in Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) and Rs 1,03,000 crores cut by not implementing the food security program aimed at 67 per cent population," he said.

He said these cuts have been applied to areas such as women and child development, agriculture, irrigation, Panchayati Raj, health, housing etc.

He said that the Modi Government will be completing one year in office and Congress has decided to analyse its tenure.

"A wave started especially in North India, raising hopes of people and big promises were made to form government. We believe that be it state or the country, people are disappointed with the one year tenure of Modi," he said.

Mr Hooda said people are raising questions now as what has happened to all those promises be it black money, implementation of Swaminathan report for Agricultural sector, 24 hours power supply etc.
