Allahabad:
Asserting that "motivational" padyatra of Rahul Gandhi has established him as a widely adored political leader, UPCC chief Uttar Pradesh Rita Bahuguna Joshi today said people are looking forward to the day when the Congress leader will become the Prime Minister.
"Rahul Gandhi's motivational padyatra from Noida to Aligarh earlier this month has established his standing as a leader who is adored by all sections of the society... The people are now looking forward to the time when the young leader would become India's Prime Minister," Joshi told reporters here.
She also welcomed the elevation of Gonda MP Beni Prasad Verma to the rank of Cabinet minister, saying "greater representation of people from Uttar Pradesh in the central government would help the party's efforts in achieving power in the 2012 Assembly elections."
Joshi said the Congress is "about to finalise its candidates for the Assembly polls and the first list of nominees is likely to be made public soon".
The UPCC head also came down heavily on the Mayawati government over the mysterious death of Deputy Chief Medical Officer Y S Sachan in Lucknow jail and said "the judicial probe (which said that Sachan was killed) has exposed the farce of the state administration and rubbished all its claims."
