Mumbai:
For most of her working life, actress Rekha's image has been one of a glamorous yet mysterious femme fatale. And Rekha added yet another feather in her cap when she was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the government yesterday.
"I enjoy going out and meeting my fellow citizens and I hope to serve them all the more," she said at an event today when asked about her nomination.
She may have downplayed her excitement, but actress Dia Mirza congratulated Rekha. "People will at least stop their internal arguments when Rekha walks in because she's so beautiful," she said.
Rekha was nominated along with cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and industrialist Anu Aga. The names of Tendulkar, Rekha, and Aga were sent by the Prime Minister to the Home Ministry which forwarded them to the President for her approval.
Article 80 of the Constitution provides for nomination of persons having special knowledge or practical experience in matters such as literature, science, art and social service.
