Jammu: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday named two candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled to be held on February 7.
PDP chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar announced that the party would field Nazir Ahmed Laway and Fayaz Ahmed, for two of the four Rajya Sabha seats that are up for re-election.
Both the candidates had lost last year's Assembly elections.
Mr Laway was defeated by Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami of the Communist Party of India-Marxist from the Kulgam Assembly seat and Mr Ahmed was defeated from the Kupwara seat by Bashir Ahmad of the People's Conference.
Both the candidates were nominated unanimously by the PDP's political affairs committee, because of their "good performance" in the Assembly elections, although they did not win, he said.
The four seats were held by former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Congress state unit chief Saifuddin Soz and Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri and Muhammad Shafi Uri of the National Conference.
