Ahmedabad:
A Porbandar resident has filed a petition in the Gujarat High Court challenging the stay order on the conviction of water resource minister in the Narendra Modi government in an illegal mining case.
Babu Bokhiriya was convicted and sentenced to three years in jail for illegal mining in Porbandar by a local court. The order has been stayed by a sessions court till the pendency of his appeal in the High Court. Bokhariya had subsequently moved the High Court against the verdict.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi has drawn a lot of flak for continuing with Bokhiriya despite the opposition Congress launching an agitation against the minister. Many claimed that Modi had chosen not to talk or write about the contentious ordinance on convicted MPs and MLAs since it would have given the opposition a chance to target him for shielding the minister.
