Petrol bombs hurled at Tamil Nadu Congress leader`s house

Chennai: Five petrol bombs were hurled at the South Chennai residence of Tamil Nadu Congress leader and former Union Minister EVKS Elangovan a little past midnight.

The bombs exploded in the verandah of the house. Elangovan and his family members were away in Erode at the time of the incident.

The Congressman had recently torn pro-LTTE posters that came up in Chennai. Police are investigating whether pro-Tamil outfits could be behind the attack.

Elangovan, known for his hard-line stand against LTTE for its involvement in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, had removed posters and banners eulogising the leader of the banned organisation, put up by pro-LTTE elements on the occasion of Prabhakaran's birthday.

Prabhakaran was killed in a Sri Lankan army offensive in May this year. (With PTI inputs)
